Doncaster Live is pleased to present this special free seminar for Doncaster musicians. An experienced music business panel will address the recent changes in the music business and the necessity for musicians to take control of their own artistic output and promotion.

Paul Cooke a member of the panel says. ”The music business has changed now. Bands need to capitalize on this fact and establish a local music business that can grow and maintain local talent. We have been blessed with the technology to do this; we now need to educate musicians to the potential of establishing their own record companies and staying in the region and capitalizing on their ideas and talent”

The entertaining and informative panel will be made up of:

Paul Cooke was the founder and drummer with the band Sade. After Producing and collaborating with various artists in London throughout the late 80’s Paul returned to his home town of Hull in 1990 and formed his first record label IVI Records Ltd.
Paul continued to produce music throughout the 90's and worked closely with Time Records based in Nottingham and Coptic label in the Bronx, working with underground urban hip hop artists and producers.

Paul has worked as a scout for Roadrunner Records & CNR International to identify future bands for the company’s portfolio and was also UK A&R Director for Fiberline.com an online music service based in Las Vegas, USA.

Paul's continues to manage his DIY project 'P Eye Eye' and also works with new 'DIY' labels distributing their 'Indie' product via NDN Distribution based in Newcastle. Paul is currently a Regional Advisor for the The New Deal for Musicians programme in the Yorkshire and Humberside regions.

Baby J is an experienced producer who has worked internationally for the last eight years. He was first discovered in 95 when an A&R at Wu-tang heard a demo and brought him in to work with up and coming acts.

Baby J has gone on to do production work, for many UK artists. He released his first mixtape, ‘for the people – F.T.P mixtape’ in conjunction with Dat Sound, in July 2006. The mixtape features 66 of the UK’s finest artists such as Rodney P, Skinnyman, Jammer, Klashnekoff, Fallacy and Rukus.

Baby J has just released his third solo album ‘ F.T.P – Fight the Power’ on All City Records. It has received amazing radio support, has been play listed on BBC 1xtra and has had numerous radio one support and voted ‘record of the week’.

Baby J has recently been voted ‘The UK’s best underground producer’ at the Urban Music awards, pushing his profile to much greater heights. The F.T.P Mixtape has also recently nominated for two BBC 1xtra mixtape awards, in ‘Best mixtape 2006’ and ‘Best concept’ categories.

Ian Campbell set up his own management/promotion and publishing company BND. He is also co founder and owner of ‘Trashpit’ an independent fanzine/record label. He has organised and managed many national tours and is a familiar face on the live circuit. He has nurtured and managed numerous acclaimed midlands bands. And is currently managing the up and coming Glam/Grunge band Patchwork Grace. Ian has recently developed partnerships with the But group who have promoted amongst others Annie Lennox, Van Halen and Aerosmith.

Ian is a live music specialist with many stories to tell. He firmly holds the view that bands have to take control of their own development and future and that live shows are the key to this. He says, “People forget that being in a band is show business. Your audience wants to be entertained otherwise they would have stayed at home. The only way to generate success is to create a hardcore group of fans”

After the presentation the panel will be open to questions from the public and the event will be followed by a gig from Patchwork Grace + a local support band.
