Every July a corner of Doncaster comes alive with a wealth of colour and excitement for Doncaster Cultural Festival, and it?s free to everyone! Past activities and performances at Doncaster Cultural Festival have included sword fighting, DJ mixing, Chinese Lion Dance, Indian dance, painting demonstrations, puppet theatre, fire eating and other dangerous tricks, food stalls, crafts, choral music and much more. Organised by Doncaster Voluntary Arts Network (DVAN), the Cultural Festival is an opportunity for local voluntary art and cultural groups and individuals to perform. Everyone is welcome to come along, enjoy the day and see the variety of activities and arts groups that exist within the Borough. The event takes place on The Arts Park, between The Point and the Museum on Chequer Road, Doncaster in July. If you would like to take part in the next Cultural Festival, please contact us. Click

We are looking for 40 people to perform in Bollywood Jane by Amanda Whittington at West Yorkshire Playhouse from 2 to 30 June 2007. |

| Bollywood Jane will be a lively and colourful production and will be a great opportunity for you to learn new dance and performance skills and work with acclaimed director Nikolai Foster and Bollywood choreographer Zoobin Surty. Previous experience is not required. All you need is lots of commitment and an ability to move. You need to be 16 or over at the time of the audition. Doncaster’s Fern Creative Media won the 2006 Arts & Business
Award for their collaboration with jazz trombonist Dennis Rollins on
the HotHouse Festival’s ‘Rhythms of Fire’ project. As well as a magnificent trophy, which Fern get to keep, they also collected a cheque for £1,000 which they have donated to Doncaster’s HotHouse Festival. ..more.. |

coming to your village hall….? An old sparring partner of mine, a retired reporter from “The Sun”, called me out of the blue to ask if I would do a gig at his village hall. I figured he’d either been drinking or had finally paid the price of all those liquid lunches spent in heady days of Fleet Street. However, when I arrived at the leafy honey stoned village he called home, it became abundantly clear that I was wrong on both counts…more |
